Math – sheet on Volume of rectangular prisms needs to be finished. Remember the formula V=lxwxh and the units are cubic.

Novel Study – you are working on the next set of chapters 11-13. We will be meeting to take up chp. 8-10 this week.

Remember to have gym clothes and outdoor running shoes that lace up properly in order to train for track and field.

Math – Nelson workbook p. 108,109,110    Continue reviewing fractions, decimals, %, ratios as you will be having a few little quizes on this information instead of a big test….some of you need to review the material further 

Science – finish with the write up of the experiment from today. Begin study notes.

Begin gathering props and costumes for your group drama project “Encounter” about the first contact between the Canadian First Nations and the European explorers.

Please make sure you have gym clothes and some outdoor running shoes to participate in track and field preparations….this means proper lace up shoes, not loose skater style shoes.

Reminder of gym tomorrow

Math – fraction test this week, review the relationship between fractions/decimals/% as you will have a few quizes on this topic next week. We have alot of math to cover before EQAO so please keep reviewing your multiplication facts as they are very important to all the math we are doing.

hwk – Nelson math workbk. p, 106, Nelson text p. 370 complete the chart and answer c,d,e,f

Language – a few of you have overdue assignments. The Amazing Race MUST be handed in as it was due last Friday. In the EQAO test prep you need to finish the grammar sections about prefixes and suffixes, the reading portion and the journal writing.

Novel Study – purple and green groups need to read and prep Hatchet chp. 6-7, orange group will meet with me tomorrow about chp. 3-5, red group meets with me on Thurs. for chp. 3-5

Math – study for your fractions test, we are now beginning to make the connections between fractions/decimals/% / ratios.

Language – those who are not finished their Amazing Race writing need to finish it up at home as it was due Friday. Thank you to those who used their time wisely and handed it in on time.

We are beginning Flight in science. Your title pg. is due on Thursday. The girls who missed science on Thursday due to the basketball regionals need to complete questions #1,2 on pg.2 in the textbook.

Explorer tests need to be signed and brought back on Monday. I will be going over the answers, which were from the readings in your notes. It is quite apparent that some individuals need to devote more time to prepare for tests in order to attain positive results. Please start to apply effective test preparation skills for this next unit in science.

April 19/12 Homework

Math – sheet on reducing fractions to simplest form, keep working on finding common denominators and equivalent fractions

Social Studies – review your notes on the topic of first contact between the Canadian Aboriginals and the European explorers and the positive and negative effects for both groups. You will be having a question on this topic on Monday for a final evaluation of the unit.

Language – make sure you are practicing your poem at home as you will be presenting it with full costumes/props and totally  memorized on April 23rd.

You also need to make sure you are answering your novel study questions and vocabulary for Hatchet using details from the novel to support your answers. This is a large portion of your final term reading mark so make sure you keep up with the work.

The minute reader raiser is finished on Sunday April 22, so please read the 20min. each night and bring your sheets in on Monday April 23rd.

The students who need to write another BEDMAS quiz will be re-writing it tomorrow.

Social Studies – finish questions #1,2 and study as your test is this next week

Language – read chp. 1&2 in Hatchet and you can start answering the questions about those chapters.

Continue with your memorization of your poems as you will be presenting them in another week.

Math – Nelson p.60 Order of Operations BEDMAS

Please get algebra test signed. People who earned less than 50% must stay in tomorrow for a review period to go over the math.

We have begun our fractions unit. Please review over proper fractions, improper fractions, mixed numbers, and comparing fractions with like denominators, like numerators, and finding common denominators. Reviewing multiplication facts will greatly help the students in their ability to find equivalent fractions and to reduce fractions into lowest terms. The stronger the foundation of these skills, the easier it will be to relate fractions to the relationship between decimals, percents and ratios.

Continue practicing your poem(s) to present them to the class. You must have them memorized and having costumes and props will greatly enhance your poetry recitation.

Math – keep reviewing your multiplication facts. We begin a new unit on fractions next week.

Social Studies – test on April 19th, you should be reviewing your notes on European Explorers (why they explored, what was valuable when they found North America, Vikings, the various explorers who came to Canada and established trade relations with the aboriginals, Jacques Cartier/Samuel de Champlain you will have to pick one of these two explorers and write an essay style of question about this explorer and his importance to the development of Canada, navigational tools, positives/negatives regarding the encounter between the Europeans and Aboriginals)

Reminders:  April 24th – Orillia Art Museum $7.00 focus on the painting style of Canadian First Nations artist Norval Morrisseau.

Math – keep reviewing algebra questions

Social Studies – finish decoding the rune message and then write a message of your own in runes pretending you are a Viking. Corrections to the questions #1-10 Fact sheet #2 on Vikings should be made.

Reminder of our gym period tomorrow. Please be prepared for either an indoor or an outdoor class depending on the weather.
